This is not only an unusual plant but an unusual pepper. The plant can grow to a height of 4 feet or taller with leaves that are green to purple/black. The pods themselves remain a purple to black color and will be 2-3 inches in size. These peppers are slightly bitter with a light habanero flavor. It is thought that these peppers are a chinense and annuum cross.
