An old heirloom, pre-1860. Generally has trouble "bulbing" under many different circumstances but once it does, Purple Vienna grows fast and is delicious, even when larger. Has generally a large canopy, so spacing is said to be important to propely bulb up, at the very least, it will take up a lot of room.
